Vancouver

In the coming weeks, I’ll unpack my experiences at NASSR and will discuss academic conferences in general.  For today’s post, I thought I would share some of the more vacation-y aspects of my trip.

It’s no secret that academics sometimes choose conferences as much for the location as for the topic of the conference.  Ok, location is a huge factor.  I will  not be attending the International Romanticism Conference, even though it’s in my home state, because it’s in Lubbock.  Lubbock is impossible to reach by car or plane, has little to no Romantic scenery, and is, quite frankly, last on my list of places to go.  Even people that went to Texas Tech praise the university while commenting on the surrounding landscape.

I was overjoyed when I found out that NASSR would be in Vancouver.  I had never been to Canada, or the Pacific Northwest for that matter.  What’s not to love about this city?

The weather was amazing, the people were awesome.  I’m in love with Vancouver!
